Mac DeMarco: Live Review

Mac DeMarco returns to Bristol showcasing his latest album ‘This old dog’ released earlier this year.

His iconic show at Bristols Marble Factory three years ago, and his fame for his live performances, earned him an audience that were expecting a lot tonight. He did not disappoint. The set list was jam packed with a selection of favourites for both newer and older fans. He effortlessly makes his way through new songs such as ‘Moonlight on the River’ and ‘This Old Dog’, creating an ambient atmosphere for the audience.

Without a doubt, the humour and comedy stylings he has become so recognised for, are the true makings of his live shows with older, livelier songs such as “Stars Keep on Calling My Name’ and ‘Freaking out the Neighbourhood’ enabling him to showcase his ease on stage.

The real treat of the evening though was the improvised covers that included Seal, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Smashing Pumpkins. Throughout the show the real fun and engagement evident between band members who are quite clearly mates, seeped into the audience. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait another three years before their return to Bristol.
